With the addition of its latest physician, Rockbridge Health is becoming even more of a family medical practice.
Dr. Zachary “Zack” Dubit, who just recently completed a four-year combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Arizona in Phoenix, is joining his parents Dr. Patricia Schirmer and Dr. Scott Dubit, at Rockbridge Health. Dr. Carola Tanna is also a member of the Rockbridge Health practice.
“I’m excited to be back. I’ve always felt that this was my home,” said the younger Dr. Dubit, who grew up in the Rockbridge area. He attended Effinger Elementary School, Lylburn Downing Middle School and Rockbridge County High School, from which he graduated in 2013.
While a student at Effinger, he said he learned how to make apple butter “under the tutelage of J.D. Clemmer.” He and his sisters, Hannah and Rachel, learned to play stringed instruments under the guidance of Julia Goudimova, a music instructor at Washington and Lee University. Hannah is today a wedding planner in Charlottesville. Rachel teaches classics at Dartmouth College.
After high school, Zack Dubit attended W&L, where he studied biochemistry and math. As a W&L student, he performed aerial dance on Wilson Hall.
He continued his education at Eastern Virginia Medical School, including a month-long rotation on Tangier Island. In addition to rotations in big city hospitals, he spent one month in Wrangell, Alaska, and another month in Payson, Arizona.
Back in Rockbridge County, Dubit said he enjoys taking advantage of the natural beauty and rich culture of the region. He said he can often be found hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains, caring for his family’s bee hives or enjoying local blue grass music.
Dubit will officially join the practice on Aug. 1. He will be accepting patients of all ages, with a focus on children and young families. To make an appointment, call the office at (540) 463-0951.
Rockbridge Health is located at 650 N. Lee Highway in Magnolia Square, Suite 2, north of Lexington.
