July 23, 1975

The restoration of full rights of citizenship to Robert E. Lee was voted by the House of Representatives. The Senate had earlier approved the bill and it just had to be signed by President Ford. - The Virginia Military Institute ticket manager reported that advance ticket sales for the 1975 home football season showed a 40 percent increase over the same date the previous year. VMI’s Keydets were the defending Southern Conference Champions. - Lexington native Pat Robertson and his Christian Broadcasting Network were the subject of an article in Time magazine.

Washington and Lee University was looking for an acting president in the wake of President Thomas G. Burish’s resignation. Burish was leaving to become provost at the University of Notre Dame. - Exceptionally high temperatures and humidity during the week culminated in a thunderstorm that caused downed trees and limbs as well as the loss of electric power to 1,177 Dominion Virginia Power customers. -A consultant was hired to help Rockbridge County with marketing the properties the county obtained when the planned new courthouse complex was to have been built on Courthouse Square.
