Beach Music Festival This Weekend

Beach music is back at Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista. The 27th annual Bank of Botetourt Beach Music Festival is this weekend with a Friday night concert and an all-day festival on Saturday.

“It’s always a fun time. We’re expecting a big crowd – it’s one of our biggest events of the year,” said Millie Sizer of the park staff who is helping organize this year’s festival. Mary Huffman, long-time force behind the festival, has booked bands that are among the best in beach music.

The Feature Attraction Band will be taking the stage for the Friday concert. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the music starts at 6. Admission is $5.

The actual festival is on Saturday, July 26. The bands that will be performing are The Tonez at noon, Jim Quick and Coastline at 3 p.m. and Blackwater Band at 6 p.m. Gates open at 11 a.m. and admission is $20.

The park’s camping ground has been upgraded with new electric and water hook-ups and the addition of more sites. For early arrivals, there will be a cornhole tournament on Thursday afternoon.

Festival goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs in order to sit back and enjoy the music and then, when the mood hits, to hit the dance floor and shag the weekend away. Concessions will be available.
