The Caravan of Fools will perform on the meadow stage at Boxerwood this Friday, July 25, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The Caravan of Fools are an acoustic band from Rockbridge County. Holly Ostby and Ben Worth began the path towards the band during the Covid winter of 2020, laying music on the screened in porch with masks, space heaters and hand warmers to find some peace and fun. Burr Datz joined in the spring of 2021 and the band was formed. Lee Sauder then sat in on a gig, the chemistry was there and now there are 4 Fools. With John Prine songs a frequent staple of their playing, what better way to name the band than with a tribute to John and a song from his last album. The Fools love performing and entertaining the audience with songs from John Prine to Keb Mo to Elvis Costello to Janis Joplin, the Dead, The Band and more.
The gate opens at 5:30 p.m so that early arrivers can meet up with friends to picnic, socialize, or get a bite to eat. A food truck will be serving food for purchase.
Admission to Music in the Garden is free for kids and current Boxerwood members and $5 per adult for nonmembers. There’s no charge for parking in the field. There is dedicated handicapped parking and the terrain is suitable for wheelchairs.
Attendees may bring their own beverages, lawn chairs and blankets. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome as long as owners clean up after them. Attendees should pack out their own trash.
In the event of rain, concerts will be postponed. Consult Boxerwood social media and/ or the Boxerwood website for more information, including “iffy” weather updates and food truck posts.
