Questions About GOP Actions

July 13, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: The surprise in recent letters about a betrayal of promises is surprising considering it was a career liar who lied. That he lied to his most dedicated supporters, knowing he’d never run for election again is surprising?

Will supporters vote again for representatives who voted to cancel their Medicaid and SNAP? Or the party stooge that replaces that person swearing to fix things? Ted Cruz skipped town during Texas’ last weather emergency, barely getting reelected, but supported personnel cuts in the National Weather Service, then came back from his vacation to play the hero by demanding immediate help from FEMA, having voted to cut to FEMA.

It has been said people get the government they deserve, but the rest of us get it too. Cline voted not to raise income taxes on incomes over $10 million, and didn’t he also vote not to tax silencers on automatic weapons sold by a Georgia congressman?

Have there been any sightings of or audio from Cline? When midterms roll around, will he explain why most of the “big beautiful bill” is scheduled to kick in after the election or explain how many Virginians will lose Medicaid or SNAP or why ICE now has greater funding than the FBI or why FBI agents have been moved from white collar crime, national security and counterintelligence to support ICE?

Since ICE is rounding up agricultural, construction, restaurant, hotel and motel workers, who get low pay but pay taxes and contribute to the economy, how many white nationalists will be picking lettuce, shingling in 90 degree heat, washing dishes and changing bedding?

More worrisome is the increasing number of times the answer to press questions is a bewildered “I don’t know,” as in who ordered budgeted aid to Ukraine halted. JOE PETITE Rockbridge County
