High Bridge

Esther Pennington, 291-2629

The service at High Bridge Presbyterian Church Sunday was opened by John McCoy introducing guest speaker Joe Hawes (Joe Hawes was the principal at Natural Bridge Learning Center for many years). Dwinnie Shafer delivered the children’s message. The Rev. Steve Willis has returned from Florida and will be back in the pulpit this coming Sunday.

Visitors included several former coworkers of Joe Hawes including former secretary Mary Stoner from Rockbridge Baths. Other visitors were two members of the Virginia Military Institute rugby team including 2nd Lt. Charley Williams, former rugby member who is now stationed at Fort Lee. Also visiting were Joe Hawes’ son and wife, Joe and Emma Hawes.

Vacation Bible school will be held at Cave Mountain Lake on Saturday, July 19, from 9:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., weather permitting. Donna Lotts is director and Dwinnie Shafer is Bible lesson instructor. Please bring a towel, a swimsuit, a friend and a smile. Lunch will be provided. Everyone is invited.

High Bridge will celebrate its 255th anniversary this fall on the weekend Sept. 27-28. Please join us for different celebration and history activities each day. The Natural Bridge Food Pantry board meeting will be held Monday, July 28, at Beth Horon United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome to attend. We will be making plans to celebrate our 30th anniversary. This food pantry began at Beth Horon United Methodist Church. The food pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, July 17, and close at 11 a.m. The High Bridge congregation is collecting canned vegetables for the food pantry in July.
