The South River Volunteer Fire Department’s annual carnival managed to avoid the rain last week, bringing area residents three nights of rides, games, music and food. Among the scenes on the opening night were (clockwise from top left) Harley Raye Groah shooting the cork gun at one of the game booths; Luken Ingram tossing for a knife prize; 7-year-old Julian Deaton, who had just won a cake, telling volunteer Robin Hartless which one he wants; Bruce Allen and Jason Burke performing; area residents enjoying bingo; and children heading down the slide.
