Nature Theme Of Next Music At Noon Concert

Lexington Presbyterian Church will present another of its Music at Noon concerts on Thursday, July 24, at noon in the church sanctuary.

The concert will feature tenor Adam Williams and pianist William McCorkle. The program, with a nature theme, will feature French, German, and English songs on texts depicting reverence for, solace, and even cultural connection to one’s land. Included will be solo songs by Schubert, Debussy, Hahn, and Foster, and melodies form the folk and spiritual tradition. A few keyboard works will be interspersed into the vocal program.

Williams, an active performer in both classical and contemporary styles, is currently based in Roanoke, where he is a music director at Cave Spring United Methodist Church, and an adjunct professor of voice at Hollins University. He is known to Lexington audiences from last winter’s performance as soloist in works of Gibbons and Schütz with the Rockbridge Chamber Singers, and as part of the Rockbridge Chorus’ spring gala performance of music by Gilbert and Sullivan, where he sang prominent solos from “Trial by Jury” and “The Pirates of Penzance.”

McCorkle is director of music at Lexington Presbyterian, and artistic director of the Rockbridge Chorus. Much of his work over the years has involved collaborative performance with singers.
