July 9, 1975

Lexington City Council received a comprehensive “conceptional master plan” for the proposed Woods Creek Park. The city had applied for $100,000 in federal grant money through the Department of Housing and Urban Development to make the park a reality. - Some Lexington residents were enjoying cable television as hook-ups by the Lexington Cable Co. continued. The company announced its plans to bring broadcasts from two Washington, D.C., stations to the city. - Louise P. Moore became the first female to practice law in Lexington. Her office was located in her secondfloor apartment in the Castle on Randolph Street.

The Rockbridge Board of Supervisors considered petitioning the Virginia General Assembly to give the county authority to impose a tax on events and attractions in which admission fees are charged. - Although members of the Architectural Review Board were not wowed by architect Chuck Ray’s preliminary designs for the exterior of the new county courthouse complex, they did not have any suggestions for major changes, either. - Rockbridge County ended its fiscal year with a budget surplus of approximately $560,000. Included in that amount was $231,149 from the schools.
