July 6, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: I started my July 4th celebration standing on the Natural Bridge overpass over I-81 with a group of my fellow “seniors” waving my beloved U.S. flag over a banner denouncing one of the many harmful policies that Trump has implemented. Later that day Trump celebrated by signing into law the Big BS Bill that congress barely passed the day before. It should have been titled the Big Betrayal Bill, as its provisions are a complete betrayal to his most loyal supporters -working class America.
The red states have the highest number of un- or undereducated Americans. These people have the basic manual labor jobs which don’t require in-depth training or college degrees. As a result of the lower pay scales, these people depend on government assistance programs-food stamps, school lunches, and Medicaid simply to make ends meet. They line up at the food banks in winter because the choice may be between heating or eating.
Trump has betrayed these people by depriving the most vulnerable folks who need these safety nets the most, while giving tax breaks to the wealthy folks who need them the least. It is truly a crime against humanity of simply not caring. You will see more of this lack of caring in the refusal to use FEMA funds to aid the flood victims in Texas and future upcoming natural disasters.
Actions speak so much louder than words. Trump’s actions speak loud and clear: He does not care about you and your families. He wanted your votes so he could stay out of prison by being elected. He uses his office to grift money any way he can because he never has enough. And every rep in Congress who voted for this bill is a co-conspirator in these crimes -including Ben Cline. He does not care about the struggles of your families. He only cares about appeasing Trump and the rich. Please remember this betrayal at the voting booth. You truly deserve so much better!
