June 29, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: I stood transfixed as a big black bird pecked viciously away at a small bird’s body it held with its talons. The small bird fluttered its wings desperately, life ebbing away. The black bird continued to peck and pull fur away, opened a cavity in the body, began removing body parts: the heart, intestines, etc., till, finding the food it wanted, it gorged for a minute or two, than hopped away, leaving everything else behind.
I went and looked at the lifeless bird and chocked back tears wondering, why a live bird? The big bird’s fare was usually carrion. The Holy Spirit reminded me about someone who did similar things to humans, only they did not die, but not right away. The Devil pecks away at you with temptations that you resist but than you give in. Sin results that you eventually will die from. The Devil than moves like a roaring lion looking for others to lead to death.
We can avoid the inevitable death from sin. Recognize that we are sinners, violators of God’s Ten Commandments, confess those sins to Jesus Christ, ask Him for forgiveness, and to save us from certain death. If we are sincere, Jesus will forgive us and mark our name in the Book of Life guaranteeing us eternal life. He will also help us live a robust life with the Holy Spirit helping us resist temptations. We will fail occasionally and require more forgiveness and more of the Holy Spirit. Just don’t commit the Unpardonable Sin, or turn away from Jesus and stop believing in His saving power.
We all need Jesus and quickly. He is coming soon to gather his believers to take to Heaven while the unbelievers die. What will your choice be? BRAD PRICE Buena Vista
