Columnist ‘Ignores What’s Going On In His Own Party’

June 30, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Mr. Lowery has done it again, putting forth an argument for a no lies day looking backwards as so many MAGA supporters do. He brings up both the 2016 and 2020 elections (which Trump falsely claimed he won) to disparage the coordinated protests by those opposed to the current administration. He goes on to claim that this country doesn’t have a king, which is correct but we do have a president aspiring to be a king or autocrat or dictator, regardless of what you want to call him, and basically seeing how far he can get destroying our Constitution.

He’s scoffed at the emoluments and war powers clauses and has assumed the purse strings from Congress, canceling important scientific study for cancer and other diseases and withholding funding already approved. All with the Republicans and the (not so) Supreme Court’s consent.

The GOP, once the party of law and order and fiscal responsibility, has become the mob boss’s enforcers of bad policy and his personal enrichment. Lying about what’s in the president’s bill, regarding who loses medical care, what programs are actually cut and general obfuscation in order to give the one percent permanent tax cuts. So the reverse Robin Hood Bill generally benefits the wealthy.

I find it incredible that Mr. Lowry always points to the other side of the aisle and completely ignores what’s going on in his party, with the master of mendacity as president. When he left office the first time there were over 30,000 confirmed false statements (lies) that he had made, including that January 6th was a peaceful demonstration.

Mr. Lowery has no standing to call for a no lies day unless he’s willing to take off his rose colored glasses and apply it to both parties. Of course, like so many MAGA voters, trolling the left is part and parcel of their political agenda. Those with open eyes see clearly. MARK BENNETT Natural Bridge
