Understanding the grandeur of breastfeeding for mom and baby will be the theme for the Tuesday, July 8, meeting of La Leche League.
The meeting will be held at Grace Episcopal Church at 123 W. Washington St., Lexington, in the second floor Canterbury Room, accessible via the elevator in the back of the church. Only street parking is available.
Breastfeeding allows for a great sense of calm and tranquility with the release of oxytocin, the love hormone, which creates a bond between mother and baby, said a spokeswoman. Getting back to prepregnancy weight can be an added benefit as mom needs to ingest an extra 500 calories daily to make milk for the baby.
LLL meetings provide a forum for parents to ask questions to help make breastfeeding as easy as possible. Meetings are free and open to the public with a lending library and snacks provided.
