Tuition Rates Rise At MGCC

On May 23, the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) announced a tuition and mandatory educational and general (E&G) fee increase for the upcoming academic year, beginning with the fall 2025 semester. The changes were approved by the State Board for Virginia’s Community Colleges on May 22.

“For in-state students, tuition and mandatory E&G fees will increase $4.90 per credit hour. Out-of-state students will see an increase of $7.40 per credit hour,” VCCS stated in the release. “For in-state students pursuing full-time studies (15 credit hours/semester) the 2025-26 tuition and mandatory E&G fees will amount to an increase of $73.50 per semester, or $147.00 per year.” Additionally, MGCC has increased its student activity fee by 50 cents per credit hour.

“Even with this modest increase, MGCC remains committed to providing a high-quality, affordable education that helps students launch rewarding careers or transfer to four-year institutions,” said MGCC President Dr. John Rainone. “We are proud to be the gateway to opportunity for learners in our area.”

The tuition increase helps colleges manage statemandated compensation increases, rising technology costs, insurance premiums, and other operational expenses.

“Our colleges provide high-quality programs that deliver life-changing benefits to our learners and we are committed to ensuring that our programs are affordable,” said VCCS Chancellor Dr. David Doré.

MGCC offers a variety of financial aid resources, including G3 tuition assistance for eligible students pursuing high-demand careers, to help minimize the cost of attending college.
