Six Rockbridge County High School girls lacrosse players were named all-state by the Virginia High School League on Monday of last week, following the Wildcats’ fifth consecutive Region 4D championship and a trip to the Class 4 state championship game on June 14.
Sophomore midfielder Anna Nye, the Region 4D player of the year, was named to the all-state first team, as were a pair of juniors, attacker Lola Mulitalo and defender Nadia Gaydos. This season, Nye scored her 100th career goal and collected her 100th ground ball. Mulitalo broke the RC career goal-scoring record earlier this season before dishing out her 100th career assist in the Wildcats’ 23-6 Class 4 state quarterfinal win over Powhatan on June 6.
Wildcats selected to the allstate second team were sophomore attacker Ruby Goodhart and a pair of seniors, attacker Josie Caldwell and defender Emily Humphreys.
Under the direction of seventhyear head coach Susan Nye, the Region 4D coach of the year, the Wildcats went 15-3, earning a 15-12 home win over Powhatan in the Class 4 state semifinals before falling to Western Albemarle 14-4 in the state championship game in Charlottesville. It was the third consecutive state title for Western, which defeated the Wildcats in the last two state title games.
