June 18, 1975

The Old Main Street Sandwich Shoppe opened in the Old Main Street mall. It specialized in delistyle sandwiches and was owned by Jerry Darrell. - The Lexington School Board voted unanimously to end its long and unsuccessful negotiations to acquire Lexington High School outright. -A 26-inch color TV set that was stolen from the home of Lexington resident James Dorsey was recovered by the Roanoke Police Department. Dorsey’s home had been burglarized in February, and items valued at $2000 had been taken from the home.

A “no trespassing” sign was posted on the trunk of the 80foot tree hanging over the Maury River at Jordans Point to discourage daredevils from scaling the tree and jumping off its high limbs into the murky waters below. -In a letter to the editor, a Lexington resident pleaded for the return of three garden gnomes that were stolen from her front yard. - Schematic plans for the exterior of the new courts complex were reviewed by a joint meeting of the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors and Lexington City Council.
