June 14, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette By 1789, our political system had mostly shed itself of the common horrors forced upon the average citizen who, for nearly 1,000 years, had to put up with kings.
What does an old Blue Dog Democrat do when his party meddles in the creation and original intent of our Constitutional Republic?
The Blue Dog votes for Trump. In 1956, in Salida, Colo. (population 5,312), 4,000 people showed up for Memorial Day. In 2025, in Lexington, population 7,802, 150 showed up for Memorial Day. Back in the olden days, the Democratic Party appealed, largely, to the “workin’ man.” Not anymore. The “workin’ man” voted for Trump.
On Saturday, June 14, at Hopkins Green, during the “No Kings” rally, a Washington and University law professor declared her adherence to the Rule of Law, but criticized the current law’s restrictions on the way America handles immigration, implying open borders should be permitted.
The Democratic Party has been increasing and expanding the power of the executive branch of our government since Franklin Roosevelt. Eighty years of a slow usurpation of congressional prerogative has created a surprising and frightening span of control for a president. … that office now in the hands of Donald Trump. But, our system, unless dismantled by the Left Wing of the Democratic Party, will never support an autocrat … neither a king nor a dictator. Thus, it remains in the hands of the Democratic Party to engage in a good bit of soul searching to re-align the party to the philosophy of 18th Classical Liberalism, its ethos still relevant in 21st Century America.
