Grace Fleshman, a senior at Rockbridge County High School, was named a statewide runnerup in the 2025 Virginia Bankers Association (VBA) Bank Day Scholarship Program.
Hosted by Bank of Botetourt, Fleshman earned a total of $5,000 in scholarships to support her college education.
Earlier this spring, Fleshman was named the Central/ Southside regional winner, receiving a $2,500 scholarship. With her selection as one of six statewide runner-up winners, she was awarded an additional $2,500 — bringing her total to $5,000. She is the 11th regional winner hosted by Bank of Botetourt, and this marks the first time in the bank’s history that one of its participating students has been recognized at the statewide level.
As part of this year’s Bank Day Program, Bank of Botetourt hosted 14 seniors from seven local high schools. Students participated in a full day of in-person learning, including presentations from various bank departments and a tour of the bank’s Daleville Office. Following the experience, students submitted essays reflecting on what they learned, competing for one of 14 scholarships totaling $28,500 statewide.
“We are incredibly proud of Grace and her achievement,” said Lyn Hayth, CEO and Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors at Bank of Botetourt. “She brought genuine curiosity and enthusiasm to her experience with us and clearly understood the vital role banks play in our communities. To see her recognized both regionally and now at the state level is a tremendous honor for Grace, for Rockbridge County High School, and our entire team. This was a standout year for Bank Day, and we’re thrilled to have hosted such a bright group of students.”
The VBA Bank Day Scholarship Program offers high school seniors a unique opportunity to experience the banking industry firsthand. Students learn about financial services, career paths in banking, and the importance of community involvement, then submit essays judged at the regional and state levels.
