Western Defeats RC In Class 4 Girls Lax Title Game

Saturday, June 14 – Western Albemarle put together a dominant performance in the VHSL Class 4 girls lacrosse state championship game, racing past Rockbridge County High School for a 14-4 win at Charlottesville High School.

Annie Allhusen recorded five goals and one assist to lead the Warriors (17-1) to their third consecutive state title – and their second straight championship game win over the ’Cats. Western defeated RC 12-8 in the 2024 Class 4 title game, also held in Charlottesville.

Genevieve Hathaway added four goals and one assist for the Warriors in this year's rematch, and McLean Stokes collected 10 draw controls.

Anna Nye had one goal, one assist, three draws and a pair of caused turnovers for the Wildcats (15-3), who suffered their fifth consecutive state tournament defeat at the hands of the Warriors.

Josie Caldwell put RC ahead inside the opening minute of the game. After back-to-back 8-meter goals from Allhusen gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead, Lola Mulitalo scored from a Nye assist to tie things up at 2-2 with 6:45 remaining in the first quarter.

But it was all Warriors from there. Camille Love put Western in front for good at 3-2 with 1:20 to go in the opening stanza.

The Warriors proceeded to throttle the Wildcats in the second period, turning an 8-1 advantage on the draw circle into an 8-0 edge on the scoreboard. Hathaway notched all four of her goals during the frame as the defending champions took an insurmountable 11-2 lead into the intermission.

Western kept the pressure up throughout the second half, winning the first five draws after the break and keeping the Wildcats off the scoreboard until deep into the fourth quarter. Consecutive goals from Ruby Goodhart with 5:22 to go and Nye at the 4:21 mark broke the RC scoring drought and provided the final margin.

Love posted three goals and one assist for Western. Perry Hume notched a pair of markers for the Warriors, while Taylor Florin registered four assists and four draw controls, and Maizey McCarthy made five saves. Alyssa Hunter had four stops in goal for RC.
