High Bridge

Esther Pennington, 540-291-2629 Visitors at High Bridge Presbyterian Church this past Sunday included Bill and Lea Braford’s children, Patrick and Erin, and their respective families of Richmond. Also, Chris and Courtney Thomas and family of Christiansburg were visiting Courtney’s parents, Roy and Connie Powell.

This coming Sunday is Pentecost Sunday, so let’s remember to wear red that day.

The afternoon circle meets Tuesday, June 10, at 1 p.m. at Carol Tolley’s and Sue Braford has the Bible lesson.

A youth activity is planned after church on June 15. Hint: the activity includes water balloons!

Join us for worship and an Independence Day picnic Sunday, June 29. Deacons will provide hot dogs, and the congregation is invited to provide sides and desserts.

This past Sunday we celebrated a special Presbyterian Women Birthday Cake Offering after worship. The congregation enjoyed tasting and voting on the 20 or so cakes of all sorts! The cake garnering the highest number of donations determines the winning baker in the contest. The winner will be announced next Sunday.

PW Mission for this quarter is Lisa’s House. A list of items for donation is in the vestibule. As they have limited storage space, gifts cards to Goodwill and Walmart are especially appreciated.

High Bridge will celebrate our 255th anniversary this fall on the weekend of Sept. 27-28. Please join us for different celebration and history activities each day. On Saturday the 27th, Dr. Tom Camden, retired Washington and Lee University history professor, will give a program on the history of High Bridge and the old community of Springfield. A tent will be set up outside with refreshments to follow. On Sunday the 28th, we will have regular worship with a catered lunch in the tent to follow.

The food pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, and close at 11 a.m. The High Bridge congregation is collecting pork and beans for the food pantry in June.
