Temporary Barriers Gone

Temporary Barriers Gone

Late last month, the city of Lexington’s plan to prevent trucks from destroying the traffic signal on the northeast corner of Main and Nelson streets was put into place and the temporary barriers that were set up in March were removed. The handicap parking space that sat in front of the entrance to the Bank of the James on the opposite side of the street was removed and the remaining parking spaces on that section of Main Street were shifted further north with the goal of giving trucks more space with which to make the turn onto Main Street. One of those spaces was turned into a handicap space to replace the one that was removed. A planter was also installed by the light, which would be struck first if a truck failed to make a wide enough turn, hopefully sparing the light. (Joseph Haney photo)
