People traveling eastbound on Interstate 64 planning on merging onto I-81 northbound overnight this week and next will need to take a detour.
Paving work for northbound Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County from exit 191 (I-64 junction) to exit 195 (U.S. 11) began June 1 and will continue through June 12, weather permitting.
Work hours are from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Sunday nights. No work is expected Friday or Saturday nights.
The work will close the I-64 ramp onto I-81 north. Northbound I-81 will have overnight right and leftlane closures as well.
Eastbound I-64 drivers can either detour onto U.S. 11 and travel north to the Timber Ridge exit or head southbound on I-81 to the U.S. 60 interchange, get off there and reenter I-81 northbound.
