Iranian students at Virginia Military Institute toured Historic Lexington and stopped in Lee Chapel to see the recumbent statue of Robert E. Lee. They were at VMI for the summer orientation in preparation for the start of fall classes. -A car traveling south on Marble Lane struck a parked car on the street, which then struck another parked car. That car also struck another parked car. - Sixteen Rockbridge County 4-H and FFA members participated in the Roanoke Stock Show and Sale at Hollins Stockyards. Robert Paxton placed first in his class in the Purebred Heifer Show and Gene Paxton placed second.

Mildred Huffman’s recipe for broccoli and cauliflower salad was accepted by American Profile magazine in its Hometown Recipe feature.
- Chef Luciano D’Arazo opened the Tuscany restaurant in the space formerly occupied by Il Palazzo. - Norma Honsinger celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends at Kendal at Lexington.
