At the 110th annual conference of Rotary District 7570 in Blacksburg earlier this spring, Woody Sadler of Lexington was awarded the Ron Ferrill Humanitarian Award by District Governor Bret Hrbek.
The award is given to a Rotarian in the district that has contributed significantly to the relief of human pain and suffering in the world.
Sadler’s efforts in leading the District 7570 Wheelchair Project have resulted in over 4,000 wheelchairs being sent to countries in the Caribbean and Latin America over the past 10 years. Sadler takes a crew of 20 Rotarians with him to distribute the wheelchairs.
“The gratitude expressed by the recipients and their caregivers is overwhelming. The ‘gift of mobility’ means so much to those who have lost the use of their legs,” said Sadler.
