Approximately 85 bike riders and support personnel made a stop in Jordans Point Park in Lexington on Saturday, May 10, as part of the Law Enforcement United Tough Riders annual 300-mile bike ride from Roanoke to Washington, D.C., for Police Week, which includes Police Memorial Day, May 15. The riders have been hosted by the Lexington Police Department for over 10 years, with the event featuring the reading of a synopsis of the local heroes who lost their lives in performance of their duties. The riders were joined by surviving family members, as well as officers from the Buena Vista Police Department, Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office and VMI Police. AT LEFT, Lexington Police Chief Angela Greene speaks to the assembled bikers, noting that “the fallen heroes’ legacy lives on in every mile they ride.” AT RIGHT, the bikers, many of whom are law enforcement officers or survivors of fallen officers, depart Lexington, heading north on U.S. 11.
