Oxford Church Helps Make College A Reality
This year’s recipient of a scholarship from the Reeves-Whitehurst Fund at Oxford Presbyterian Church is Miah Leadbetter. This grant will enable her to continue her studies at Radford University.
Leadbetter is majoring in business management, and she enjoys the variety of courses available to her at Radford and loves the many new friends and contacts she has made. She is an active member of the campus plant club and holds a 4.0 grade point average. She is ambitious and wants to accelerate her studies and graduate after just two more years.
Oxford Church has provided financial support to 37 qualifying students since 1995. It all started when Elizabeth Whitehurst, a former teacher and longtime member of Oxford Presbyterian Church, responded to the need and provided the necessary funds. This was a long held goal by Oxford church members – to help deserving young people go to college. Four years later the fund was expanded with the addition of John H. Reeves, a former Session member, educator and strong believer in the potential of young people.
