Wednesday, May 14 -- Blacksburg dealt the Rockbridge County High School boys lacrosse team a 13-9 setback at The Fields at Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista.
Preston Rippel tallied five goals and two assists to lead the Bruins (6-5) to their fourth consecutive victory. Granger Tucker won 19-of-23 faceoffs for Blacksburg, while Ryan Klopfer bagged a hat trick and Connor Caswell made eight saves.
Grayden Brown and Andrew Kelly scored three goals apiece for the Wildcats (4-7), and John Brooke finished with one goal and three assists. Chase Pooley recorded eight saves between the pipes for RC, and Caleb Robinson notched five caused turnovers.
With the score tied at 2-2 heading into the second period, the Bruins reeled off five straight goals to craft a 7-2 advantage that they would never relinquish. RC trimmed the margin to two at 7-5 late in the second period and 8-6 midway through the third, but the Wildcats would come no closer.
Owen Fotinos chipped in two goals for Blacksburg, while Quincy Speers netted a pair of assists for RC.
The Wildcats will play host to Jefferson Forest back on the RC campus for Senior Night on Thursday. Action begins with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m.
