Reports from local motels showed an increase in visitors to the Lexington area during the first four months of the year compared to the same period in 1974. Motel managers said that the relative stability of fuel prices and supplies could have been a factor. - Virginia Military Institute head football coach Bob Thalman announced that Dick Harmison had been named an assistant coach for the Keydets. -In an unusually busy day, a Rockbridge Circuit Court grand jury returned over 40 indictments at the opening of the May term of court.

Not even a month after opening a dinerstyle restaurant in Buena Vista, David O’Malley loaded up a van with over $13,000 in stolen merchandise and hit the road. Of significant concern to the local police was the fact that some diners had paid for their food with checks, some of which had Social Security numbers printed on them, putting the patrons at risk for identity theft. - The area’s only bowling alley closed its doors. The corporation that owned Lexington Lanes had dissolved due to financial hardship. - Twenty-one Buena Vista residents spoke up at a public hearing on the city’s proposed budget. Citizens were angry about the proposed hikes in real estate and personal property taxes, as well as a rise in water and sewer rates.
