May 12, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: We have a man occupying the White House who seems to be suffering from “Delusions of Grandeur.” He wants to negotiate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine because he feels he is entitled to the Nobel Peace Prize - and this will clinch the deal.
There is a layout of Mount Rushmore on his desk because he wants to “Make Mount Rushmore Great Again” by adding a fifth head (his own) to the already perfect ensemble of four of America”s greatest presidentswhose shoelaces he is not fit to tie.
This past week he posted an AI generated picture of himself dressed as the Pope - even before the last official day of mourning for Pope Francis was over. I guess he wanted to make sure he was in the running to be the next Pope, before the Conclave of Cardinals counted their votes.
But they chose a different American for that office - one who truly embodies the Christ Consciousness and Jesus’ teaching of unconditional love for God and for your neighbor. Many Christians have forgotten that “neighbor” is your fellow human being. “Red and Yellow, Black and White, they are precious in His sight,” the hymn so familiar to so many. We also might add gays, mentally challenged, other faiths, immigrants, and the poor to that song, no exceptions. Unconditional love is the most valuable commodity on the planet - not wealth.
Pope Leo has spent the majority of his life embodying that love.
Trump, on the other hand, has spent the majority of his life preaching hatred, enriching himself and his family on the backs of working class Americans. He continues this, throwing our economy down the sewer with his tariffs, firings of workers, removing service to our vets, and destroying our relationship with our best friend and ally-Canada.
The total opposite of Jesus’ teachings. You might say we have a Christ Consciousness in Pope Leo, and an “anti Christ” consciousness in the White House. BETH HOUSER Lexington
