The Farmers Market officially opened for the season this past Friday with three vendors and about seven customers. They are starting slow, but are hopeful to continue to grow once folks get used to the new hours. They usually see an increase when the local gardens begin to grow and produce. They will be open this Friday from noon to 4 p.m.
I understand Dominion Energy has been working on some upgrading around town and at the substation, thus the reason for a short loss of power a couple times in the recent past.
There will be a cakewalk this Saturday, May 17, at 6 p.m. at the Thompson Community Center to benefit the Norman Claytor Jr. family. As many know, Norman, “JR”, was recently diagnosed with a rare cancer and had part of his leg removed and is currently at the Salem V.A. Cakes would be appreciated, as well as your presence to support this family. JR is a veteran and retired police officer.
