Farm Bureau Donates To Ag In Classroom

Rockbridge County Farm Bureau and Rockbridge Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee have made a $1,000 donation to the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom.

This donation will help AITC’s efforts to connect children to agriculture by providing youth with accurate agricultural education and equip the next generation to become more informed consumers, voters and leaders.

The donation was made during Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s Women’s Leadership Conference in Richmond, held April 4-6. Members of Rockbridge County Farm Bureau Women’s Leadership Committee presented the check to Tammy Maxey, Virginia AITC executive director.

“We chose to support Agriculture in the Classroom because we feel it’s important for children to understand the sources of their food and fiber, and the impact agriculture has on their daily lives. This program is making that possible by reaching thousands of teachers and students each year,” said Ann Smith, chair of Rockbridge Farm Bureau’s Women’s Leadership Committee.

Smith noted that, in addition to supporting AITC, the county Farm Bureau and Women’s Leadership Committee actively support agriculture through grassroots advocacy, working with local elected officials, offering scholarships and bring awareness to Rockbridge County agriculture.

“We are so appreciative of all our donors, especially the county Farm Bureaus and Women’s Leadership Committees who give us so much support,” Maxey said. “Their generous donations make our work, and our mission, possible.”

Virginia AITC is part of a nationwide effort to help youth understand and appreciate agriculture, which is Virginia’s and the nation’s largest private industry. The program provides an opportunity for children to connect to agriculture through volunteer- led activities, school grants, professional development for educators and web resources at virginia.agclassroom. org.

The AITC program is funded by donations received through the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom. For information on supporting the foundation’s educational initiatives, visit virginia.agclassroom. org and click on the “Donor” link.
