May 2, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: I feel the plan to completely brick over the entire area of Courthouse Square, except for spaces for trees around the edges, will have the effect of turning a nice little park into a brickedover plaza. To terrace the area, as now planned, into different levels rising from Main Street, with connecting steps and ramps in order to flatten the area, will hamper mobility, especially in the winter. It also will impair drainage. The slight slope of the lawn, as it now exists, has no effect on seating there.
Right now the area is pretty nice - adequate brick walkways, a lawn area, functional tables and chairs used daily by many folks lunching and visiting there. Could use a few small flower gardens and sizeappropriate trees, which would allow some grass to grow.
