May 5, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Unhindered by a sense of irony, our congressman, Ben Cline, in his newsletter for April 24, bragged about helping a constituent cut through the “roadblocks” at the Social Security Administration that were hindering her from getting survivor benefits.
SSA had told her she could not move forward without an appointment, but the first available one was two months away. Cline’s office secured an earlier appointment.
The problem is that Cline, his Republican friends, and Elon Musk’s DOGE are united in viciously slashing SSA funding, staff and offices, worsening the SSA’s ability to serve Mr. Cline’s constituents. While serving one constituent, he is hurting millions of Americans. Cline’s craven hypocrisy is shameful. JAY CLARKE Rockbridge County
