PM Girls Go 2-1 In Tennis

The Parry McCluer High School girls tennis team won two of three matches last week, while the Rockbridge County girls lost three Valley District matches.

The Fighting Blues (4-3) earned an 8-1 home win over Altavista (2-5) on Monday of last week before capturing a 5-4 home win over Nelson County (5-5) on Thursday at the Southern Virginia University courts in Buena Vista. With the victory over Nelson, PM avenged a 5-4 road loss eight days earlier.

The Blues ended the week with a 5-4 home loss to district rival Narrows on Friday, with the Blues falling to 1-1 in the district. When the teams met on April 3 at Narrows, PM won 5-4.

With its losses, RC fell to 0-9, both overall and in the district. The Wildcats lost 5-4 at Turner Ashby (3-9 overall, 3-5 district) on Monday of last week before suffering a 6-3 home loss to Broadway (4-7, 2-5) the next day. On Friday, the Wildcats lost 9-0 at home against Spotswood (9-2, 7-0).

The Wildcats were scheduled to play host to the Blues at the Lexington Country Club courts on Monday. RC will return to district action at East Rockingham on Thursday before playing host to district rival Harrisonburg on Friday for its last home match of the regular season, with both matches scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. The Blues were slated to play at district rival Bath County yesterday and will play host to Bath on Monday at 5 p.m.
