Several athletes from the Parry McCluer and Rockbridge County high school track and field teams had strong performances at the Dogwood Track Classic on Friday and Saturday at the University of Virginia’s Lannigan Field in Charlottesville. On Friday, PM throwers performed well at the Generals Track & Field Invitational at Stonewall Jackson High School in Quicksburg.
PM had four boys race in the 3200-meter run on Friday evening at the Dogwood Track Classic. Leading the Blues was Josh Cooper, placing 30th in 10:09.25. Teammate Hinckley Lovelace finished 41st in 10:13.01, and PM’s Sam Carpenter came in 163rd in a personal-record (PR) time of 11:09.89. Also racing for PM was Sebastian George, finishing 180th in 11:17.66.
Griffin Harlow led the PM boys’ throwers, placing eighth in the shot put with a toss of 51 feet, 8.5 inches and 27th in the discus with a heave of 133-5. Also throwing for the PM boys was Rayshan Richardson, placing 25th in the discus with a heave of 134-11 and 27th in the shot put with a toss of 45-10. PM’s lone girl throwing at the Dogwood meet was Kamilah Richardson, who placed sixth in the shot put with a toss of 36-1.
For RC, Ariana Mitchell placed fifth in the girls’ high jump, clearing 5-2, a PR. Mitchell joined teammates Kyra Strowbridge, Abby Harding and Celia Jones to finish 31st in the girls’ 4 X 100-meter relay in a season-best time of 53.93 seconds. Harding placed 52nd in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.63 seconds, and Jones came in 53rd in 17.64.
Six PM throwers competed at the Generals Track & Field Invitational on Friday in Quicksburg. Freshman Timber Thomas led the PM boys in the shot put, placing 18th with a toss of 36-3, and 33rd in the discus with a throw of 76-9.5. Vincent Wilson placed 19th in the discus with a PR throw of 97-7 and 21st in the shot put with a toss of 34-4. Levi Hepler came in 22nd in the shot put with a PR toss of 339.25 and finished 27th in the discus with a throw of 88-6.
For the PM girls, Keeli Wheeler placed 13th in the shot put (24-6.5) and finished 14th in the discus (65-4). Presley Austin came in 17th in the shot put (23-3.5) and finished 18th in the discus (62.8). Phoebe Wood placed 15th in the discus (65-1) and came in 28th in the shot put (21-3.5).
