On Sunday, Trinity United Methodist Church welcomed pets of all sizes from the surrounding area for its third annual Blessing of the Animals. Trinity’s pastor, Anita Mays Lucord, performed the ceremony, which included three cats, four horses and an estimated 20 dogs. The four horses were brought over from the Lexington Carriage Company, one of which was in his first day on the job. Some participants brought photos of their animals that were unable to be transported to the event due to size or health reasons. Each animal was given an individual blessing and given a special medallion with the image of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals. (photos courtesy of Kenny Lucord and Rebekah Smith)
