Despite preventing Harrisonburg from scoring in the second half, the Rockbridge County High School boys soccer team suffered a 2-0 home loss in Valley District action on Wednesday night in Lexington.
The Wildcats (2-6-0 overall, 1-6-0 district) found themselves trailing just under six minutes to the game when Hosea Tesfamoriam scored for the Blue Streaks (4-3-1, 4-2-1) from RC junior goalkeeper Jacob Wallace’s right side. Later in the half, Alfredo Rivero-Rodriguez gave Harrisonburg a 2-0 lead by kicking in a goal off a rebound of a missed shot. Gêne Kähler got off a shot late in the first half that was stopped by Harrisonburg goalkeeper Adolfo Rivera Rivas.
In the second half, the Blue Streaks got several scoring opportunities, but RC junior goalkeeper Patrick De Marcellus came up with big saves, and the Wildcats’ defenders helped stop the Blue Streaks from extending their lead.
For the game, De Marcellus made seven saves after replacing Wallace, who had three saves.
The Wildcats will continue district action at Spotswood on Friday, starting with the junior varsity game at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity game scheduled to follow at 7.
