Buena Vista City Council voted to purchase residential property adjacent to its downtown business section as the first step in establishing a mall in downtown Buena Vista. The Reid property, which had four houses on it, was chosen as a site for a parking lot for the mall. - Someone familiar with the operations of the Grand Piano Furniture Company on North Main Street absconded with $800 in cash from the money drawer. There was no sign of forced entry.

A Virginia Beach man held up the Fairfield branch of the Bank of Botetourt. He was on the lam for about an hour before being arrested by members of the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office. - The Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office hired two women deputies, the first women in uniform in the history of the sheriff’s department.
- Rachel Michelle Mills was crowned Miss PMHS 2005 at a pageant held at the high school. She was also the winner of the talent competition.
