Town Square Naming Deadline Thursday

Only two days remain for local residents to help name the city’s new Town Square and become a Flush Fund sponsor.

Excitement continues to build as the project is only a few thousand dollars shy of the fundraising goal and just a few short months from its completion as a vibrant community gathering place, said Kristina Ramsey, director of economic development.

All are invited to cast their vote by May 1 for their favorite of three communitynominated finalists: Green Valley Junction, Magnolia Square, or Piccadilly Commons. Each vote is made through a donation of any amount, and the finalist with the highest total donations will become the official name of this downtown centerpiece. Every dollar raised will go toward the final touches for the space, including seating, public art, and landscaping.

“This naming process has been a celebration of our shared history and creativity,” said Ramsey. “It’s a great moment for everyone to be part of something lasting and meaningful.”

Votes can be cast online at www.buenavistava.org/ name-town-square or in person at secure ballot boxes located at local restaurants, gas stations, the treasurer’s office, the Glen Maury Park Office, and the Town Square site.

For those looking to make a bigger impact, this is also the final opportunity to become a Flush Fund sponsor. A $50 donation earns supporters a golden toilet trophy, a fun and unique keepsake that has quickly become a favorite among donors, said Ramsey. While voting and Flush Fund sponsorships will close on May 1, there are many other opportunities to support the Town Square project. Visit www.buenavistava.org/ townsquare/donate to learn more.

Recent progress at the Town Square is visible, with the stage cover roof completed following October’s timber frame build. Electrical work and fixtures are currently being installed, and the Farmers Market has kicked off the 2025 season, bringing weekly Thursday events to the space.

The city has also issued an invitation for bid (IFB) to construct the seating plaza and other finishing touches, with contractor bids due by yesterday, April 29. Details are available on the city’s website or by contacting the Economic Development office.
