Lexington
Work on the Courthouse Square project is expected to start after Memorial Day.
That was part of the update to Lexington City Council last week provided by Chuck Smith, who serves as Council’s liaison to Main Street Lexington.
Main Street Lexington is currently reviewing estimates and will choose a contractor in the near future.
Once work begins, the first step of the process will be to move the Veteran’s Memorial to in front of the courthouse.
Smith also noted that more than two-thirds of the funding for the project has been secured and that the rest is still being sought through grant funding.
During Council’s April 3 meeting, City Manager Tom Carroll had reported to Council that the two parking spaces in front of Courthouse Square will not be removed for the project as originally proposed.
