On April 27 the Faith Explorers Class at Trinity United Methodist Church will begin a study of some of the most difficult teachings of Jesus.
The class will use a DVD and book by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine of Vanderbilt University to examine teachings such as instructing disciples to hate members of their own families (Luke 14:26) and instructing followers to sell their belongings and give to the poor (Luke 18:22).
In “The Difficult Words of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to His Most Perplexing Teaching,” Dr. Levine shows how these difficult teachings “would have sounded to the people who first heard them, how have they been understood over time, and how we might interpret them in the context of the Gospel of love and reconciliation.”
All are welcome to attend any or all the classes at 8:45 a.m. Sunday mornings in the fellowship hall of Trinity United Methodist Church at 147 S. Main St., Lexington. The fellowship hall is located on the ground level of the church. Enter the church through the accessible rear entrance off the parking lot at the back of the church.
Anyone with questions can email [email protected] or call the church office at (540) 463.5430.
