High Bridge

Esther Pennington, 540-291-2629 High Bridge Presbyterian Church celebrated Easter this past Sunday with a full sanctuary. Family and friends from near and far were in attendance. Representing the Presbyterian Women, Robin Parker presented Kathy Gilbert with a lifetime membership in the Presbyterian Women of the Church. Kathy has excelled in so many positions in our church and our community and she was so deserving of this honor. The entrance hall was decorated with beautiful Easter lilies. During the children service the pastor talked to the children about “The Surprise of Easter.” The children sang “It’s a Happy Day!” During the worship announcements we received news that Josh and Rachel Powell are the proud parents of a baby boy born Friday April 18, 2025. Proud grandparents are Johnny and Peggy Powell.

Mark Pennington of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Dianne Rakes of Salem and several other church members attended the sunrise service/breakfast at Ricky Siler’s home early Easter morning. Service was led by the Rev. Lucy Jackson-Hughes, who is the pastor at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church.

Small Group Bible Study will meet Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Joe Hawes will lead the Bible lesson and light refreshments will be served.

Due to a conflict in children’s schedules our Easter Egg party will be held after worship under the leadership of Donna Lotts on Sunday April 27.

Scholarship Sunday will be observed May 18.

High Bridge is preparing for its 255th anniversary celebration at the end of September.

The food pantry will open promptly at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, and close at 11 a.m. The High Bridge congregation is collecting peanut butter and jelly for the food pantry during the month of April.

The Natural Bridge Food Pantry board members will meet April 28 at Beth Horan United Methodist Church at 4 p.m. All supporting churches are asked to send their voting representatives.
