PM Girls Edge SJ, Narrows

The Parry McCluer High School girls tennis team earned a pair of 5-4 road wins last week, defeating Stonewall Jackson last Tuesday before starting Pioneer District action by overcoming Narrows on Thursday.

With the win over Stonewall Jackson (4-2), the Fighting Blues (2-1) avenged a 6-3 home loss to the Generals in the March 19 season opener.

In the rematch, the Blues won three of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches. Winning in singles for PM were Olive King at No. 2, Peira Conner at No. 3 and Keely Mahaffey at No. 4.

In doubles, Conner and Mahaffey teamed up at No. 1 to capture an 8-1 win. “Peira and Keely killed it in doubles!” said PM head coach Alyssa Sewell.

Also winning in doubles for the Blues were Macy Shafer and King with an 8-2 victory at No. 2.

On Thursday, PM dealt Narrows its first loss of the season, as the Green Wave fell to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Pioneer District. The Blues won three of six singles matches and two of three doubles contests.

In the closest match of the day, Conner and Mahaffey teamed up for a 9-8 (7-3) tiebreak win over Narrows players Raigen Clark and Brooklyn McCroskey. “Peira and Keely absolutely killed it!” said Sewell. “I couldn’t be more proud of that win.”

Also winning in doubles for PM, at No. 2, were Shafer and King with an 8-1 victory. PM’s singles winners were King at No. 2, Conner at No. 3 and Mahaffey at No. 4.
