4-H Summer Camp Registration Starts Soon

Rockbridge area youths are invited to participate in this year’s 4-H Summer Camp, which will be held at the W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center at Smith Mountain Lake July 14-18.

Local youths are sharing the 4-H camping experience with youths from Bedford and Halifax counties. Activities at camp include archery, artistic adventures, canoeing, climbing and challenge courses, fishing, golf, kayaking, small animals, sports, swimming and snorkeling, tie-dye, and much more.

4-H Summer Camp is open to all youth ages 9-13. This year, camp fees remain $380 per child, with discounts for multiple children from the same household. This fee covers lodging, transportation, meals, snacks, t-shirt, and all incidentals for the camp classes and activities.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26. The initial camp registration is online at https://forms.gle/ CRpHsZRZREenCX1T8.

Within 48 hours of registering, families will receive an email from Megan Sheets, Rockbridge Extension agent, 4-H Youth Development. The information in the email will confirm the online registration, and explain the next step in the process, which is enrolling the potential camper in 4-H Online, the state database. The 4-H Online information will be reviewed and must be completed prior to accepting the child as a member. These two steps, online registration and enrollment, must be in approved status.

Families then have five days to bring the required $100 deposit (nonrefundable), in person, to the Rockbridge Extension Office located at 150 S. Main St., Lexington. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families will also receive a packet of forms to complete and return to the Extension Office at their leisure, as camp classes will be assigned in the order of the initial online registration.

All paperwork and remaining balance will be due no later than Thursday, May 29. Financial aid applications are also available for those needing assistance; and a $100 deposit is still required. Families can request the application when you pay the deposit.
