Rockbridge Girls Laxers Split Pair

The Rockbridge County High School girls lacrosse team split two road games last week, losing a nail-biter at Covenant before rebounding to roll past Christiansburg.

On Monday of last week, the Wildcats (2-2) fell 12-11 to The Covenant School (4-1) in Charlottesville. Anna Nye tallied four goals to pace the RC offense, while Lola Mulitalo netted a hat trick.

The Wildcats recovered from a 4-0 first-quarter deficit, battling back to take the lead in the fourth period. But due to some critical yellow cards down the stretch, RC had to play shorthanded for the final seven minutes of the contest, and the Eagles – who finished 18-2 overall and won their third consecutive Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division II state championship last year – rallied for the victory.

Nye and Emma McKnight totaled three caused turnovers apiece for the Wildcat defense, and McKnight also posted a team-high four ground balls. Alyssa Hunter tallied seven saves in goal for RC.

The Wildcats recovered quickly to post a 22-0 victory at Christiansburg (0-2) in their first Region 4D game of the season last Wednesday.

Josie Caldwell notched three goals to lead a balanced RC offense, with 18 different Wildcats scoring in the game. Elizabeth McCormick and Tadara Cooper each contributed three caused turnovers, and Alexis Samante recorded three ground balls.

RC is slated to return to action at Virginia Episcopal School on Monday at 5 p.m., and the Wildcats will play host to Franklin County at 6:30 p.m. next Thursday, April 10, with the varsity games only on both nights.
