Finishing a strong indoor season, the East Coast Elite club track team performed well at the Adidas Indoor Track Nationals held March 21-23 in Virginia Beach.
The team consists of runners from Rockbridge County High School, coached by club co-founder Drew Ludtke, and all of the runners earned medals.
The highlight of the meet for the East Coast Elite club team was the boys’ 4000-meter distance medley relay, where the ECE team placed fifth in 10:51.69. Team members were Isaiah Howdyshell, Oscar McClung, Sammy Eastwood and Tyler Ludtke.
In addition, three ECE boys had impressive races and set club records. In the freshman boys’ mile, Leif Guse placed 15th in 4:43.26. In the boys’ mile, McClung, a sophomore, finished 12th in 4:33.38. Sophomore Tyler Ludtke came in 50th in the boys’ 800-meter run in 2:03.25.
The ECE boys finished the weekend by setting a club record in the 4 X800-meter relay, placing 17th in 8:44.06. Team members were Howdyshell, Eastwood, Guse and Ludtke. “They dropped the baton and finished as strong as possible,” said Coach Ludtke.
