After leading the Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team to the Class 1 state quarterfinals, sophomore guard Langston Cook was named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Virginia All-Conference 2 first team.
Cook, the Pioneer District player of the year and a Virginia High School League all-region first team selection, led the Fighting Blues in scoring this season, averaging 24 points per game, while pulling down 8.3 rebounds per game and averaging 5.7 assists per game, 2.3 steals and 1.2 blocks. Cook was also recognized as a scholar-athlete, with a grade point average higher than 3.25.
Guided by third-year head coach Tyler Kerr, the Blues went 20-6 overall and won the Pioneer District regular-season and tournament titles, going undefeated in district play. In the Region 1C tournament, they were runnersup to George Wythe, which went on to win the Class 1 state title. PM ended its season with an 84-60 loss to Patrick Henry-Glade Springs in the Class 1 state quarterfinals.
