Goshen Town Council member Debbie Bowden submitted her resignation from Council Monday, effective immediately. She did not give a reason for her decision to resign.
Pursuant to Code of Virginia Section 15.2-1800 notice is given that the City Council of the City of Buena Vista will hold a public hearing to receive comment on the following matters.
Children who will be enrolling in kindergarten at a Virginia public school are required to have a physical and immunizations prior to entering the classroom. Consequently, the Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) and local school boards are collaborating to provide expanded access to physical exams and vaccinations in the area.
Commencement exercises for Mountain Gateway Community College will be held Friday, May 12, beginning at 7 p.m. in the armory on the MGCC Clifton Forge campus.
The three Rockbridge area jurisdictions are closing this week on a purchase of land that is to be the future site for the Rockbridge Area Department of Social Services. The site is behind the Food Lion in Buena Vista, at the intersection of U.S. 60 (East Midland Trail) and Va. 608 (Forge Road).
Mays Grocery, a Buena Vista convenience store that has been owned and operated by Mays family members since the 1930s, has been sold. A message on the sign board outside the store conveys the family’s gratitude for its many long-time customers. For the story, see page B8. (Ed Smith photo)
