A Buena Vista man will spend approximately eight years in jail after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of a Staunton man in Buena Vista on Feb. 22.
Fire and rescue personnel from throughout the Rockbridge area stand silently as a South River Volunteer Fire Department truck enters a parking lot next to the Fairfield Cemetery last Friday afternoon just prior to the graveside service for Steve Wilmer. Wilmer, who died Oct. 1, was a member of the South River Volunteer Fire Department for 48 years and served as chief for 28 of those years. The Virginia Military Institute board of visitors has voted unanimously to honor former superintendent Gen. J.H. Binford Peay III ’62 with the school’s highest honor, the New Market Medal.
The following people were indicted by a Buena Vista grand jury on Sept. 22: Ashley Paige Baker, 46, for possession of a schedule I or II drug, Methamphetamine, on May 10.
