It is said that the way to international peace starts with friendship between peoples, countries, cultures, and individuals. After visiting with the six international exchange students at Virginia Military Institute, witnessing their rapport, friendship, fondness, and good-natured ribbing, one might conclude that world peace can be achieved.
Approximately 45-50 people gathered on Saturday in front of the old courthouse in Lexington in support of women’s rights. This rally was a part of the “Bans Off Our Bodies” National Day of Action organized by Planned Parenthood and Women’s March. Hundreds of rallies and marches took place nationwide on Saturday in response to the news that the Supreme Court is considering reversing Roe v. Wade. Saturday’s local event was the second women’s rights rally in Lexington in a week; a rally on Monday, May 9, organized by 50 Ways Rockbridge was attended by approximately 150 people. An accident left the Washington and Lee University Campus Kitchen (CKWL) van of nearly nine years badly damaged this past fall. The Campus Kitchen leaders worked hard to figure out alternative transportation to maintain the variety of food insecurity and food waste fighting programs that CKWL runs.
The Effinger Ruritan Club held a meeting themed as “Rebuild Forward” for potential new members on Thursday, April 21, at the Palmer Community Center on Blue Grass Trail in the South Buffalo area of Rockbridge County. Twenty-five members and sponsored guests gathered to learn about the Effinger Ruritan Club, enjoy a country-cooked meal, and experience a regular club business meeting.
